Back for our weekly appointment; today I want to propose, as sneakers of the week, the fabulous Nike Air Jordan 3 retro.
Let’s take this step by step. The Air Jordan line was introduced by Nike in 1985 to conquer a new market. Up to that moment, Nike, in the popular mindset was for runners. The new market to be conquered was that of the glamourous world of basketball… No sooner said than done!
The legendary Michael Jordan arrived on the scene and began to wear these sneakers for every game. Curiously, the NBA sanctioned the player for wearing the shoes every time. Why? The reason was that the Air Jordans were too colourful and too showy; up to that point most of the players had worn shoes that tended to be white. This was great advertisement for Nike.
Back to us, our Nike Air Jordan retro 3 was designed by Tinker Hatfield and was the first to have the iconic Jumpman logo on the tongue placed in the foreground. The characteristic swoop and the word Nike Air are placed on the heel. The white base has elephant print inserts and the unmistakable “infrared” red that gives a touch more colour to the lower eyelets and the upper and the air bubble, that is visible in this model. A combination of strong colours does justice to this great Nike classic, a cult object so popular, that it was reissued as early as 1994 as a retro shoe. This is probably one of the most popular and the most innovative Jordan ever, most loved by millions of sneaker heads.
All we can say is… legendary!
See you next week!
