The history of Saucony began in 1898 when it was founded by 4 partners in Kutztown, a small town in Pennsylvania. The name Saucony was chosen by the 4 partners, after reworking an indigenous expression that purportedly means "where two rivers run together". Initially founded as a shoe factory, Saucony developed into a running shoe manufacturer in the early 50s due to the popularity of running and light athletics in the USA. In the early 70s, Saucony shoes spread through the United States like wildfire, where they were developed not only as running shoes but also as casual wear. In 1981 the Saucony Jazz came onto the market, the first shoes in Saucony's history to incorporate triangular figures in the outsole. Today Saucony is one of the best known brands in both amateur and professional marathons, where it sponsors athletes such as Williams, DeeDee Trotter or Molly Huddle. Beyond running, thousands of young people wear Saucony's American brand urban and streetstyle sneakers in everyday life, for a unique look that never goes out of fashion.
