"In 1852, during the California Gold Rush, Bavarian immigrant Levi Strauss opened a fabric company in San Francisco. As he worked, he noticed that all hard-working people had the same demands: to have clothes that could endure anything. Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis combined durable denim fabric with reinforced rivets, giving rise to the first work pants in 1873. Today we call them ""jeans.""
